There may have been a little confusion between the two regarding Jemile Weeks.
In order to clear a spot on your 40 man (or to clear salary cap space), there are two options.
1. Release: If you release him, he will be off your team and becomes a free agent. He can then be bid on like other free agents ( highest AAS will win the player)
The amount of salary that the original team is responsible depends on the winning bid, but you will be responsible for no more than 25% of his salary each year remaining in his contract. Please see the rules for the specifics. I'm trying to keep this post as concise as possible.
2. Outright: By outrighting a player, every team has a chance to claim the player (reverse order of standing) and his contract. If the player is claimed, the team has cleared a roster spot and the salary of the player. If the player is not claimed, he must occupy one of the 60 minor league spots and the team is still paying the whole salary.
*A player who is successfully "outrighted" to the minors must be placed back on the 40 man roster the next offseason by the "exercising a club option" deadline (assuming he is still under contract).
To clarify the situation with Jemile Weeks, I am outrighting him. You can submit a claim to the free agent email address within 48 hours of the creation of the thread. The winning claim (if any) must put him on their 40 man roster and will assume his entire contract. If no one claims him, I will have to put him in my minor leagues and I will still be on the hook for his entire contract.

Right, now I remember, this is the whole situation I said we should do without because it would be confusing....
