Hey all, this was voted in back in Feb 2013 as we wanted to modify the original rules. I haven't updated the constitution under "Releasing Players" but I'm going to now to reflect this language. If you're dropping a player that's under contract only for the current season (that you've signed for only 1 year) OR if he's in the 1st of several years, then you're responsible for 50% of the current season's salary, not 25%. It is 25% for any future seasons under contract, OR if the player is in the 2nd, 3rd or whatever season of a multi-year deal, as long as it's not the 1st season said player was signed.
Here's the language that is being added to our League Constitution. Sorry I've had a couple owners post releases thinking they're only responsible for 25% this season but for specific cases it is 50%.
A GM has the right to waive any player to free agency. To waive a player and drop him to free agency, you must post him in a new thread under the section titled "Player Releases". This will make permanent the decision to waive a player to free agency. Once posted, there is no turning back. A GM will be responsible for 50% of a player’s salary (during the 1st year under contract) and 25% of that player's salary for any remaining years for the duration of the contract (UNLESS that player is signed to a contract by another franchise). In which case, continued responsibility for that player's salary may be further limited or negated in full. However, if said player remains unsigned, you must continue to count 25% of that player's salary against your cap until his contract expires.
