Reasoning:
1. I was not going to be able to clear cap space for this year without trading some away or cutting players. At least this way I get a hefty return.
2. Scherzer is a true ace, but is turning 34 this year and is on a VERY backloaded contract that will hurt in 2-3 years
3. After a deep-dive into the farm system I inherited, I realized that it was slim, and full of very low ceiling prospects (if you could even call them that). 3 high ceiling arms AND 2 TOP OF prospects is definitely a solid core to build my next class of talent around.
This trade allows me to clear cap space, restock farm NOW and next year, AND still compete this year with a few open roster spots and some space for free agency now.
