The Philadelphia. Astros send:
1) Adam Jones - 17 mil (2018)
2) Jose Quintana- 9.6 mil (2018)
3) Taiwan Walker - 500k (2018) - prospect eligible
4) Jake Odorizi- 500k (2018) - prospect eligible
5) 1st round minors selections in 2019 and 2020 draft.
St.Louis A's send:
1) Chris Sale -26 mil : ( 2018 to 2021)
-My reasoning is that I am all in for a Title push. Sale is a great player and could put my team over the top. I think the St. Louis A's have some good building chips to improve its team for the future. I hope this trade works out for both sides. Trade negotiations went very smooth. Good luck Eric.

The St.Louis Athletics confirm this trade.
We do this trade to get out of Sale's long expensive contract while adding a couple of rentals who maybe we can resign for cheaper in the off-season. We also get 2 good SP's that have performed well and willing to take on the chance that Walker comes back from his TJ surgery and continues to perform well. We also get 2 1st round selections to add to my own which will help add great quality prospects for the next 2 years.

I want to clarify here for Eric, since you have not been through an off-season with us. All 4 of these players are "rentals." With Odorizzi and Walker, they are prospect tag eligible, but each team has only 1 prospect tag. So you would not be able to keep both and would have to choose one of them over Marcus Semien, Kevin Pillar, Kolten Wong, and Aaron Sanchez who will also have expiring prospect contracts this offseason. With Jones and Quintana, you will have 1 Franchise Tag (15M per season) and 2 RFA tags (opportunity to match highest bid) that could be used on them (or any other free agents including the ones above). I want to make sure this is all clear before approving the trade, as the only concrete return past this season are the 2 draft picks. |
