What happens to the salary of a player who you have under contract that retires while under contract? Are you still responsible for the salary?

for existing contracts I think there should be no penalty, but for user-signed contracts I think we need some penalty in place to avoid someone signing a 40 year old to a four year contract to beat someone who offered a one year contract. Maybe 25% of the owed salary.
maybe also allow any player under 35 (or 30) who has a career ending injury to be released for free.
also do we consider signing in Japan the same as retiring?

I agree with Andrew on everything and would say yes to Japan question.

Isn't this the Jamie Moyer rule that I put into the League Constitution? That rule addresses signing older players.
I agree on releasing someone with a career-ending injury (under 30) for free.
