The reason for the trade on my side is the immediate need for a 3B. I like Candelario and think he is a solid all around player who should hit for a good average and hopefully some power. I think he will be the 3B of my team if Vlad does indeed move positions.  This also fills a secondary need of freeing up a few Minors roster spots; I have accumulated lots of picks and will need the spots to fill these out.

I like Mountcastle but ultimately needed to push the clock forward a bit to get a starter for this season.

Agreed. I don't have a strength at 3B but did have a couple young 3B that could net me some value. I really like Albertos and Mountcastle as top prospects in their organizations so this deal certainly makes sense for me. Not sure if my Boston Padres are building to contention in 2018 or looking at a huge rebuild. This trade doesn't hurt either way.
