22. David Thompson | Rank: 22 (Preseason: 22)

After two relatively nondescript and injury-riddled seasons at Miami, Thompson broke out during his junior year with 19 home runs to place him among the Division I leaders. That led to the Mets taking the third baseman in the fourth round of the 2015 Draft. He played in Double-A in his second full season, finishing in the top five in the system in both home runs and RBIs before capping things off with a strong showing in the Arizona Fall League.
Thompson showed the ability to make solid adjustments at the plate in 2017, shaking off a .184/.217/.241 April by hitting .280 with 15 home runs the rest of the way, not to mention his .328/.371/.569 line in 58 AFL at-bats. The adjustments led to more consistent hard contact and allowed him to tap into his plus raw power more frequently. While he is a well below-average runner who was very rough defensively when he entered pro ball, he has improved tremendously and now projects as a solid average defender at the hot corner.
Thompson has now reached the upper levels of the Mets system and will try to hit his way to Citi Field in 2018. How much he can continue to hit and reach his power could ultimately determine whether he can be a big league regular at third for a contending team.
21 . Logan Ice | Rank: 21 (Preseason: 21)
Team: Lynchburg Hillcats (A Adv) ETA: 2019 Position: C Age: 22 DOB: 05/27/1995 Bats: S Throws: R Height: 5' 10" Weight: 180 lb. Drafted: 2016, CBB (72) - CLE
Scouting Grades: Hit: 45 | Power: 40 | Run: 35 | Arm: 50 | Field: 55 | Overall: 45
Ice didn't show much impact potential at the plate as Oregon State's starting catcher before breaking out in 2016 as a junior and hitting .310/.432/.563. That Ice's class featured a dearth of catchers further enhanced his Draft stock, and the Indians took him with the 72nd overall pick in June. He signed for slightly less than pick value, made his pro debut in the New York-Penn League and then spent his entire full-season debut with Class A Lake County in the Midwest League.
A switch-hitter, Ice showed vastly improved feel to hit during his junior season, hitting for average and some extra-base ability, while walking more than he struck out. That strong approach gives Ice a chance to hit for average even though he has struggled to do so at the outset of his career. He does offer some power, primarily from the left side of the plate, but scouts questions whether he'll be able to get to it at higher levels on account of his modest bat speed.
On defense is where Ice really shines, and there's little doubt that the former Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year can stick behind the plate. He has average receiving skills and an average arm that has been effective at times in controlling the running game. The floor might be higher than the ceiling with Ice, but there's a lot to like in a guy who could develop into a solid backup catcher at the highest level
6. Sean Murphy | Rank: 6 (Preseason: 8)
Team: Midland RockHounds (AA) ETA: 2019 Position: C Age: 23 DOB: 10/10/1994 Bats: R Throws: R Height: 6' 3" Weight: 215 lb. Drafted: 2016, 3rd (83) - OAK Other Lists: Top 100 Prospects (#97), Top 10 C Prospects (#3)

Scouting grades: Hit: 45 | Power: 50 | Run: 40 | Arm: 70 | Field: 65 | Overall: 55
A preferred walk-on at Wright State after going undrafted out of high school in 2013, Murphy emerged as a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American the next year and earned All-League honors in 2015-16. The dearth of college catchers in the 2016 Draft class boosted Murphy's stock, and he became the second-highest pick in Raiders history when the A's drafted him in the third round. He proved advanced in his first full season, earning California League All-Star honors after bypassing the Class A level entirely, and then receiving a midseason bump up to Double-A. He continued to excel in the Arizona Fall League, showing well on both sides of the ball against advanced competition.
Murphy draws raves from evaluators for his athleticism, agility and defensive tools behind the plate. He stymies the running game with plus-plus arm strength and above-average pop times, so much so that only 46 baserunners attempted to steal against him over 91 games in 2017. His blocking, game-calling and receiving skills have all improved in the professional ranks, and club officials consistently praise his ability to handle pitchers.
Offensively, Murphy possesses an intriguing blend of power potential and on-base skills from the right side of the plate. There's some natural hitting ability there too, and he proved comfortable using the entire field in his first full season. Even if his production is only modest, Murphy's defensive chops alone could make him an everyday catcher at the highest level.
21. Trevino | Rank: 21 (Preseason: 20)
Team: Frisco RoughRiders (AA) ETA: 2019 Position: C Age: 25 DOB: 11/28/1992 Bats: R Throws: R Height: 5' 11" Weight: 211 lb. Drafted: 2014, 6th (186) - TEX

Scouting grades: Hit: 45 | Power: 35 | Run: 35 | Arm: 60 | Field: 60 | Overall: 45
The Rangers have legitimate catching prospects at every level of their system, none with a higher floor than Trevino. He started at three positions (third base, catcher, shortstop) in three years at Oral Roberts but became a full-time backstop soon after turning pro as a sixth-rounder in 2014. He has developed into a quality defender behind the plate, winning Rawlings Minor League Gold Gloves in each of the last two seasons.
Defensively, Trevino is ready to play in the big leagues right now. His receiving and blocking seemingly improve every year, and he gets the most out of his strong arm with a quick release and accurate throws. Club officials love his leadership skills and his ability to run a pitching staff.
Trevino had the worst offensive year of his pro career in 2017, batting .241/.275/.323 in Double-A. He continued to make contact and exhibit a good two-strike approach, but Texas will try to get him to drive more balls and add some loft to his compact right-handed swing. More selectivity also could help because he rarely walks.

Scouting grades: Hit: 45 | Power: 55 | Run: 50 | Arm: 70 | Field: 50 | Overall: 50
A bonus-skimming scandal in 2008 destroyed the White Sox international scouting department, which didn't make a significant signing for another five years. That drought ended with Adolfo, who signed for $1.6 million out of the Dominican Republic as MLB Pipeline's No. 2-rated prospect in the 2013-14 international crop (behind only current organization mate Eloy Jimenez). Ankle and hamate injuries ruined his first two full years as a pro before he ranked fifth in the low Class A South Atlantic League with 16 homers in 2017 -- though that season ended two weeks early when he punched a dugout door in frustration and broke his left pinky.
Adolfo has two exceptional tools in his raw power and his arm. His combination of bat speed, strength, loft and leverage in his right-handed swing gives him massive pop to all fields. He still needs to make more consistent contact, though he improved last year when he started to recognize pitches better and became less pull-conscious.
Adolfo has the best arm strength among Chicago's position prospects, further enhancing his right-field profile. He has average speed and should be an average defender on an outfield corner. He was diagnosed with a torn flexor muscle and a strained ulnar collateral ligament in his elbow during Spring Training, but the White Sox believe he'll be able to at least DH for much of the season before potential surgery afterward.
