Jays trade: Matt Wieters, C, BAL 17: 16M, 18: 16M to Pittsburgh Orioles for: Carlos Estevez, P, COL 17: 8M, 18: 9M Prospect Anthony Alford, OF, TOR For me, this is a salary dump with some prospect upside. I have 2 catchers already, and I've regretted the Wieters signing since I made it. I'll immediately release Estevez and ultimately save a pretty significant chunk of change. Alford has nice upside if he can stay healthy. Proof: Against my better judgment, I am going to match this. Re-structure to: 16: 10M 17: 16M 18: 16M

This was a Salary dump on both sides. I was glad to get rid of Estevez's contract without having to take a hit. I needed a catcher for the next year or two to bridge the gap to bring in Murphy and Alfaro. This also acts as a backup if one of them doesn't pan out as expected like young catchers tend to do.
Losing Alford was tough but I have some depth at OF in my minor league system where this deal could be made.
After all was set and done I get Wieters for a net of 8 and 7 Million for the cost of Alford. With limited options in FA I thought that was worth it to me.
