Saw scotts comment about needing commish approval on trades. Problem was the pick had less than hour before it would have expired and then next person up could have jumped in with a pick. Talking with Jon who I took was the next pick in his que. Just not sure how in the future this should be handled. If I tried to have CHI make the pick for me and then trade the player good chance he doesn't see the message until it's too late ( it was 6am when I saw his approval of the proposed trade ). Thought under the circumstances this was handled properly but would like clarification for the future

If it is picks for picks, why does it need approval? Have they ever been vetoed?

Sorry guys. I don't care if it's pick #4 or pick #424, every trade (for players, picks or both) needs to be reviewed, sometimes by more than just me, and then approved. That's our process. I'm sorry if I'm being a little dramatic this morning but I need everything by process, all i's dotted and t's crossed. This is our 5th year and I want many more.
If there was less than an hour on the clock before that pick expired, then that's what happens. Steve could still trade for that pick but if the next person is on the clock, so be it.
Picks for picks is a trade. Every trade needs approval. And by the way, Phil last night specifically told me he'd make that pick when I personally reached out as a favor to let him know he was on the clock. I went to bed assuming that pick was already made when I woke up this morning, not that there was a trade of that pick awaiting approval.

Once you've agreed to trade for a pick that's on the clock, a safe way to avoid this problem is to make a gentleman's agreement that the guy with the pick chooses the intended player, then trades him straight away instead of the pick. (well 'safe' as long as you trust your trading partner of course , but that is a reasonable assumption in this league I'd say!).

Henry that's what normally I would have done however I sent the offer the night before and when I woke up it had been accepted. We hadn't even discussed a trade before that point so it's not like when I offered him the trade I could have included who I wanted since I had no idea if he was even interested in a deal. Doubt this situation comes up that often but wanted clarification for the future
