KC makes the trade to become a little more competitive in 2017. I had the cap to take on Cargo and view him as a potential franchise tag player in '18.  In return, Col gets a power arm/upside player from the Dodgers and a couple of big league bats looking to carve out full time roles.

This was a relatively easy deal for me. Cargo has a huge contract and I feel that I was able to upgrade other areas of the team without risking a lot this season. I am still trying to find the balance between rebuilding and being competitive, and this trade furthers that. No doubt Gonzalez is one of the premier bats, however Schebler has a nice OPS which I feel is very important. Alvarez is young but has been almost untouchable and has ridiculous K rates. Frazier might be nothing more than a fringe player, but his upside was worth taking a flyer on. Great working with J.
