With our trade deadline looming just under a week away I still can't decide if I'm battling to get up in the money or playing for 2017 and beyond. I think this deal will help me either way. I desperately needed another catcher and Lucroy slots in nicely there at least through next year with the club option I have. Hendricks is a very solid addition to my rotation and having him under control at league minimum for another couple years is a bonus too. Ryan agreeing to send over the draft pick ensures I get another solid prospect in our 2017 Minors draft.
Severino was one of the keys to this deal and I fully expect him to bounce back and be a big part of the Yankees rotation later this year and in 2017. His stuff is still there and is throwing well in the Minors since being demoted earlier this year. Since Ryan asked for a few prospects that I am hesitant to move I countered with 3 solid prospects instead of 1 or 2 top guys. Mejia was just traded to Minnesota in the Nunez trade and he could be up next year (was in Futures Game this month). Bellinger hit 30 HRs in 2015 and has been hitting well this year too in LA's minors. Voth has been very solid for Nats AAA Syracuse and is knocking on the door right behind Giolito and Lopez. Plouffe was a salary move on my part to help with taking on Lucroy's salary.
