NY trades Ryan Zimmerman: 16-18: $14M 19: $18M 20: $18M CO (2M buyout) 2017 first round pick 2017 second round pick Aaron Blair Andy Ibanez Tyler Skaggs 16-18: $0.5M
to Seattle for
Evan Gattis - HOU - ( 16:$1M, 17:$2M 18: $3M) Michael Brantley - CLE - 2016: $3M
I confirm this trade. Brantley is not in my future plans as either an extension candidate or an RFA, especially in a league where people think it's good business to pay a guy like Inciarte 20+mil. I'm not convinced the little power Brantley had will come back. Gattis' value lies solely in his ability to play C and since he returned to C this season, his numbers have plummeted. To be able to move both for 2 picks, 2 big young arms, and Ibanez is a good move for the franchise long term.. Really liked what Skaggs did in his last minor league start and I like Blair's long term potential despite being in over his head at the big league level. Both guys should be able to replace Paxton and Folty who were traded earlier this season.
Good luck to Chris as he chases the money this year.

Agreed. Looking to make the run in 2016 and catcher has been killing me. Gattis is an improvement over Navarro or Salty. Brantley is also a solid addition, assuming he comes back soon. Brantley will be an RFA candidate for me. But a big piece of this was also the salary cap flexibility. Zimmerman's contract was awful (and only gets worse), so I was really happy to unload that to free up some room to make some additional moves, potentially. Losing the two picks is going to set me back a bit, but I'm not worried about the pitchers - I have a few guys in that same tier as Skaggs and Blair.
One friendly amendment to the trade posted above - Skaggs should have his contract listed, which is $500K for 2016-18.
