Hey guys here are a few questions I had for Scott. He asked me to post to the board so it could be discussed. I'll post my opinion after

Couple questions sorry if answers are there and i didn't see



1. are we required to have 40 active mlb players or can you run with a smaller bench? – YES, required to fill your 40-man roster with the Initial FA bidding draft (so you have to make sure you have at least the minimum available to sign however many players aren’t kept). Once the season starts I don’t see keeping 40 as imperative. You could trade away 3 and get 1 back in return. You have 2 open roster spots. Are you required to fill them in-season? My opinion would be no. But I do want everyone to have a complete 40-man roster entering the season.


2. are we required to promote minor league players once they surpass the min ab or in or can u leave them in your minors? Up for debate. I hadn’t thought of this but we have to decide. I’m in another league where the guy who has Trout did not activate him all season. I actually think it’s Ben (Nats) in this league. Not sure of his reasoning as Trout would have helped his team, but I presume he didn’t want to clock ticking on contract years.


3. can we elect not keep someone from one of our orginal 2 teams and hope to sign them to a better FA contract? Sure! No chance in hell I’m keeping Loser Lackey for that ridiculous contract. But if he’s still out there as a FA and I can get him for one or two years cheap, maybe I consider.


4. What is done with Minor eligiable players that have MLB contracts? Leonys Martin is eligiable for minors but has a MLB contract for 3.2M Great question! I don’t have an answer for that.

1. the 30 team league I'm in requires you to keep at least 37, since only the 37-40 count towards the salary cap. This league, however, lets you promote a minor leaguer to the bench at no cost to eligiblity or anything (all minor leaguers had a 500,000 salary which would then count against the cap).

Here are my thoughts...

1. The reason I asked this question is what if you want to keep a few spots open for minor players who will be promoted soon? Why should you be forced to waste min $$$ on players you'll have to cut in a month? I would say as long as you can field a legal line up your good. Or at the least say you must roster a min of lets say 30 active MLB players at all times.

2. I think you should be able to leave them in the minors for as long as you want and they become active when promoted or traded.

4. My opinion if they can start the year in the minors they are treated the same as all minor league players.

no one wants to be able to keep a minor leaguer in the minors the year AFTER they lose eligibility, the issue was whether a minor leaguer must be promoted the instant they reach 130 AB, starting their contract as well.

2. I guess you wouldn't have to promote them once they reach their minimums, but based on the current rules It doesn't seem like that would affect his contract. And he wouldnt be allowed to be kept as a minor leaguer based on current rules.



4. I think its a good idea to not use the current contract for a minor league player....so all players under the threshold will have the same salaries. It makes it clean and does away with some of the confusion with some of the contracts the young guys have. That would bring into question 27 yr old foreign players who would be considered a prospect that has a $10M salary. That would only affect yr one because going forward we would have to bid on them.

1. I do NOT want anybody trying to work the system and figure they have their entire cap to use for only 30 players. That said, I do understand there may be teams that want a spot, or two, or maybe three for soon-to-be-upcoming minor leaguers. So in that case, I am open to keeping 3 spots available. This should be optional. If someone wants to fill their 40-man roster they may. Everyone would need to fill AT LEAST 37 spots. How's that sound?

2. I am OK with not having to activate a minor leaguer if he surpasess the 130 AB, 50 IP, or 20 pitching appearances during the season. But, you would have to activate that player to your Majors roster for the following season.

3. No brainer. You can decide not to keep a player according to their current MLB contract and then hope to sign him as a free agent for less. Good luck. You can have Lackey.

4. I am OK with this. Even if a player has an MLB contract (like Leonys Martin), if he's still Minors eligible, let's treat him like all other minors eligible players. No cost to the 40-man cap when activated in season and minimum MLB salary ($480,000K) the season after surpassing the threshold numbers.

In the case of #4 then, a guy like Jorge Soler's contract would be thrown out, and he starts fresh like any regular minor leaguer?

That's correct. Jorge Soler is minors eligible. Once he passes 130 AB in the majors, then he would be $500,000 (or league minimum) the following seasons until his arbitration $1M, $2M, $3M seasons. For now all you have to do is list him as one of your up to 25 Cubs minors players and you're all set.

Does the same go for Fujikawa even though he will start his career in the majors? Will we make a distinction or just go with this rule since this season is the only time it will matter?
