Scott and I have been talking trades on and off for a while, and have now ended this one in a way that seems to suit our individual needs pretty well. I'm going to cut Nicasio straight away, so will be liable for a total of $8.5m over 3 years for one year of Duffy, whilst Scott gets Santana for one year for $8.25m, plus the option to keep him on a more expensive contract next year.
I'd never been a big Duffy fan, but quite like what he's been doing this year; given I could do with an extra pitcher, he's what I need now. It's a pity to trade Santana when running at a .214 BABIP, but thankfully Scott recognised it should revert. Actually, Carlos has reduced his K rate, halved his infield fly ball rate and is posting a career high .226 ISO (with 15 dingers on the year so far) so there are certainly reasons to be optimistic about him. I'm not sure whether I would have done this trade in a vacuum, but I have a seriously strong offense and Miller, Jose Ramirez, Inciarte, Pedro Alvarez and Domingo Santana on the bench so I really had to do something. All in all great chats with Scott and a deal we can both be happy with I think!
