As the injuries have piled up, it's really about getting pieces for now. Smyly's not quite Carrasco but he's got a six week headstart now, and Xander and Odubel are solid pieces. Also given I couldn't FT both Stras and Carrasco, trading away one of them to someone who would FT them made sense. It's hard not to have Pollock next year and via FT after but desperate times call for desparate measures- Steve gets the studs long term and I get the help I need in the short term.
