Not sure if this is the correct spot to post but seems good enough. I guess there is some question about trading future picks and whether the team has space for them here's my two cents....
Since we allow future trading of picks I don't see how we should limit this. Who's to say a team that trades a 7th rounder for next year will have 7 spots next season? And if he doesn't then technically he doesn't have space for that traded pick either. I think as long as a pick is traded before your 12 hour window to pick has expired you should have the right to trade the pick. Also someone who is maxed out in the 7th round could trade multiple minor players which would free up spots.

So does this mean someone can trade a 12th round pick even if they only would have minors spots open through 8 rounds and wouldn't even be using the 12th rounder?

Whatever we decide here, rules certainly need to be updated about this. Thanks.

I think you have to allow it. There is no guarantee if I trade a 2017 7th Rd pick this year that I'll have room for 7 minor leaguers next year. I think as long as the pick time hasn't passed you should be allowed to trade for it. I don't fully agree with it and I understand the counter argument but I don't see an alternative and it will become too confusing

I thought that the rule was you couldn't trade a pick that had already been passed up, when that team's minors are full.

I don't know. What do you guys think? Henry now has 58 Minors and we're in the middle of the 7th round. He has another pick this round which would bring him to 59. At this rate he'll be maxed out after the 8th round.
I totally see where Steve is coming from in saying that who knows right now if a team will be able to use a 5th or 6th round pick next year, which we're seeing in some of these trades. My gut feeling is only for current year's draft though. We all know Henry could use his final 7th and 8th round picks, but he's not able to draft in rounds 9 thru 12 because his roster will be maxed. But he's able to trade those picks in Rounds 9 thru 12? I just think there's something saying it's not kosher to move picks you absolutely know can't be used anyway. But maybe that's just me.
I have no problem in trading picks for next year at this point.

I don't have a view, but just to clarify I don't have 8th or 9th round picks, so It's just 7, 10, 11, 12 so have 4 picks but two slots. I could therefore theoretically move the 7th and 10th rounders as I would be using them?
Again, can I be refereed to the previous discussion as I can't find where we went through this before? I'd have done a deal sooner or been more careful with cutting players before the draft if I'd realised.

I will find our discussion from last year. I have to search for it. This is nothing that important, just something I know we discussed last year and wanted to address this year. Things can stay as they are and have been for 2 years if we want.

I'm sure it's there. Seems like the best way is just for me and Chuck to do 7th/10th(16) for 6th/10th(17) as those are two picks I'd definitely be using. No biggie for me if Chuck's happy!
