Yoenis Cespedes: Free agent to be
NY Diamondbacks trade
Albert Almora, OF, CHC: prospect
3rd round pick in this year's draft
My reasoning is I am going to franchise tag Miguel Cabrera and can use my RFAs elsewhere. This is the best offer I got. Whether present players, prospects, or picks, I was aiming for best value.

New York Diamondbacks cannot apply a franchise tag to Cespedes after a trade. If St Louis applies the franchise tag first, then he can be traded and New York can keep Cespedes franchised.
If St Louis does this then St Louis will not be able to franchise tag Cabrera.
Knowing that New York was hoping to get Cespedes for a franchise tag, this deal may now need to be reworked.

The deal was done so he could rfa tag him.

FYI, just in case, from our rules...
Players designated with a Franchise Tag may be traded once they are designated with that tag. The tag is considered stuck to that player and it may not be traded or used on any other player. The league will be keeping track of the tags that are used on players so that teams will not be able to use 1 tag on multiple players. A player must be designated with the franchise tag before the trade is posted. You cannot post a trade and then designate a player with the tag afterwards.

Confirmed. I am still OK with the trade knowing that I need to make Cespedes an RFA, rather than applying a franchise tag. I've got the cap room to match any reasonable offer.
As for reasoning, I am trying to make moves to make the NY Dbacks competitive in 2016. I don't see huge fantasy value in Almora and the 3rd Rd pick is a wild card. I'll take a chance on matching any offer for Cespedss

Commish approved. Processing on Fantrax and update draft order although Cespedes will soon be dropped from NY DBacks roster on Fantrax as all Free Agents are removed from team rosters. NY DBacks will still be able to RFA Cespedes if so desired.
