Alright, time to get to work on this team!

I'm going to start by placing several of my bigger contract guys who still have plenty of fantasy value in the short-mid term.

SP-CC Sabathia (NYY) 14: $23M 15: $23M 16: $25M

Yes, Sabathia's best days are probably behind him, but he can still be a serviceable SP for fantasy purposes. If he can get the velo back up a bit or learn to pitch without it, his high BABIP and low LOB% from 2013 should rebound and he can get to 8K/9 and an ERA ~3.80 and probably 15ish wins. Not an elite option any longer, but still a solid mid-rotation guy.


C- Miguel Montero (ARI) 14: $10M 15: $12M 16: $14M 17: $14M

Another guy with a down year in 2013, but still reasons to think he can return to a steady, top 15 catcher for fantasy. He struggled with back problems last year and had a low BABIP (.282, career avg.-.312) which drove down his AVG. His GB/FB increased last year, but his HR/FB% remained in line with his career averages, so if he can start hitting more FBs, there is certainly reason to expect a return to 15-18 HRs (he hit 11 in 116G last year). AVG should climb back up to ~.260-.270.


U-Ryan Zimmerman (WAS) 14-18: $14M 19: $18M 20: $18M CO (2M buyout)

Less interested in moving Zimm, but it is a big contract. He is still a top 6-7 3B and has been one of the most consistent options at the position for several years now. Assuming he stays on the field, he's a virtual lock for a .275/25/80 year. Again, willing to entertain offers.

SP-Brandon McCarthy(ARI) 14: $9M
SP-Trevor Cahill (ARI) 14: $7.7M 15: $12M
SP-Ian Kennedy (ARI) 14: $5.265M 15: $6.265M


U-Cody Ross (ARI) 14: $8.5M 15: $8.5M 16: $9.5(opt)

I'd be surprised if there was much interest here, but I figured I'd throw him out there. Did have a solid 2012 season with the Sox.


Let me know if you're interested in any of these players. I am more than willing to work with prospective owners on a deal that would force me to "eat" a portion of the salaries.

Welcome Chris! Great post! I have to confirm what Chuck mentioned. We don't trade part of salaries/contracts. If you move or acquire a player via trade, it's the whole package of remaining years. Remember you do have the option of releasing a player and would only be responsible for 25% of current season & future seasons (unless you signed the player and dropped in same season - that's now 50% for same season).

Same goes for claiming a player that another team may have out righted to waivers. You'd assume that player's contract as is. Happened only a couple times last year.

I'll also be looking to trade David Robertson (2014: $4.1M), following the FA signing period. Will be looking for prospects. Just thought I'd post now in case this impacts anyone's decision to try to acquire a closer via FA. Based on the price of guys like Balfour, Rodney, etc., it seems like Robertson has some value.

Also, just want to bump Ryan Zimmerman. Again, based on how much Granderson, Pence, and Werth have gone for, it seems like Zimm's $14M contract isn't that bad. Seems like plenty of teams could use a dependable option at 3B. Obviously I'm looking for a bigger return for Zimm, but same idea - I want prospects and/or young, controllable MLB players.

Adding:

Rajai Davis -- 2014: $2M and 2015: $3M

I cannot believe no one challenged me on this bid, following the news of Andy Dirks' back injury. Rajai will have a full time job for at least 3 months to start the year.

If you recall, last year he had 45 SBs in just 360 PAs, while in a platoon. Only caught stealing 6 times. He was attempting a steal once every ~7 plate appearances. Let's bump him up for this year to, say, 450 PAs. If he maintains the same rate, he should be attempting ~64 steals, and using 2013 success rate, we can anticipate something like 56 SBs this year. All this hype for Billy Hamilton, well here you have a guy who can go: .260-8HR-70R-55SB. And he has a great contract. Cheapest source of 50+ SBs you'll find.

Anyone interested in Rajai Davis? As I thought, he is off to a red-hot start, hitting .300 with 6 SBs already with everyday At-Bats. Great contract and great production. Who wants him??
